About the project

The new central library at Bjørvika will be a national centre of culture and knowledge. Its goal is to inspire reading, learning, debate and enthusiasm. Together with the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design and the Munch Museum, the new library will be an important addition to life in Norway’s capital city.

The art project for the new library is already underway, and an art committee, led by Per Hess, is currently preparing a preliminary proposal. Including funding from Public Art Norway, the total budget for the art project for the new building will be NOK 12 million. The art project will place works in the ground-floor lobby, on the stairs linking the third and fourth floors, and on the terrace overlooking Oslo Central Station.
